REMINDER: 2017 PROHIBITED LIST COMES INTO FORCE ON 1 JANUARY 2017
On 29 September, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) published the 2017 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods along with the 2017 Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes. The List, which is one of five International Standards that are mandatory for all Signatories of the World Anti-Doping Code (Code),designates what substances and methods are prohibited both in- and out-of-competition and which substances are banned in particular sports.
This is simply a reminder for all International Federations, National Anti-Doping Organizations and Regional Anti-Doping Organizations that we must all ensure that the 2017 List and its Modifications are easily accessible for consultation by athletes and their entourage on our websites; and that, you are proactively communicating them to athletes and entourage via the direct communications channels that you may have at your disposal.
As you know, WADA releases the List and its Modifications three months before it enters into force so that all stakeholders – in particular athletes and their entourage -- have ample time to familiarize themselves. While, ultimately, the athlete is responsible for knowing what substances and methods are on the List and for the substances in his or her body; let’s make sure that we do everything we can in this regard to help keep them clean.
