Killarney 'Excel' in London

Written by Deirdre Leonard

Killarney Judo Club excelled in the London International Judo event held in the Excel Centre which will hold the Judo and Boxing event’s for the Olympics later this year.

Jack Hanrahan took gold in the cadet boys U46kg and this was a great result following on from his recent win in the All Ireland's. This was his first international event and he showed great confidence in his three fights having received a bye in the first round. Next up was Jamie O’Dongohue who fought very well given this was Jamie’s first time fighting at U55kgs and in the U20 year age band. Come September in the next international event, Jamie will be more comfortable in this weight category and will get the results his hard work deserves.

In the Junior Ladies U48Kg event the two Fitzgerald sisters Emma and Jennifer competed and this was a hard fought event with Jennifer losing for gold on a decision after the final ended in a draw with a very tough English player . Emma who had worked hard to make the weight, battled hard but things did not go her way in this event.

The club would like to thank the parents of the players for traveling and all the support they showed to all the players competing.
